My CSL DD (with boost kit) arrived this morning and I’ve spent an hour playing with it.
This will replace my current CSW2.5 (provided I can find a buyer for it!).
The difference to be honest is very marginal. The feeling of pulling against an elecromagnet (which I suspect is really the feeling of the ever so slight flex in the CSW’s two belts) is no longer there. It’s completely smooth and I was able to catch slides on the LMP2 which I’m not sure I would’ve been able to with the CSW2.5.
Turned the steering weight up to the maximum it would go (where the bar was just starting to clip) and it was certainly far heavier steering that I’d want for more than 10 minutes. Unless you’re a weightlifter, I don’t think you’re going to need more torque than the CSL DD can offer!
The wheel shaft is about 5cm/1.5″ longer than the CSW2.5 which means if I mount the base in the exact same spot it’s too close. Going to need to have a bit of a rethink of how it attaches to my Playseat Challenge which I could do without.
So, long story short - it’s a great base and would definitely recommend if upgrading from a Thrustmaster T300 or something in that sort of category. If you have a CSW2.5 already I’d stick with what you’ve got.
This is a bit of a fucker to mount onto a Playseat challenge.
You either have to mount it too far forwards or rotate the plate and put it too far back.

That bit about the Playseat mounting is a bit worrying.

Alex I have the same issue with my Thrustmaster already. On top of that it sits too low for the height of my TV. I tried a rather crude solution but it wasn’t great so I’m thinking about changing my challenge for something else, maybe an Omega ART but I don’t have the funds for it on top of a CSL DD right now.

Jogort We’re moving house in 3 weeks, first thing I’ll be doing is setting up a proper work from home space in the attic - no more desk in the corner of the living room for me, finally. How much does a setup like that cost, out of interest? And do rally drivers not use paddles to change gears?
