My wheel has broken again so got to return it for repairs. It’s still under warranty thankfully.

The USB connector is broken, a pin inside it has bent over. I noticed it a while back but it has been working okay until now. Last night I started getting a message that the wheel was malfunctioning whenever I plugged it in.

A bit annoying to have to return it a second time. Oh well, let’s me give sim racing a bit of a rest.

Good to know that it is an upgrade over the Elite , but I still have no plans to actually upgrade. If I was going to I would probably start with the pedals anyway.

I’m fairly sure I’ll be ordering the CSL DD soon. It just comes down to two questions now really, Formula or McLaren and 5NM or 8NM. I keep going backwards and forwards on those answers.

GassyHaggis I’m pretty set on the 5nm now I think. Look at how much it’s moving that 2080 rig. I think the 5nm will be good enough and in the unlikely event it isn’t I can always upgrade it later. I’m tempted also to go with the McLaren wheel to give me a budget for the loadcell when it’s released for the CSL pedals.

BritishBean yeah that makes sense. I love the look of the formula wheel but bearing in mind I chuffed up my pit stop and traction control settings whilst pitting the other night with the G29… The McLaren wheel might be a cleaner and neater button layout for me. 😂

Couple of interesting videos I was watching last night and they’ve helped me confirm what we’ve been heading towards and that everyone has mentioned.

So the 5NM one for me as it is double the G29 and as you say @BritishBean it can be upgraded later if not sufficient. So it’s looking like base CSL DD, McLaren Gt3 and the CSL pedals. When the load cell gets announced/released I’ll probably grab that. With the base CSL DD I don’t think there’s a need for the £100 quick release despite how awesome it would be. So yeah, I think that’s what I’m going with.

My CSL DD (with boost kit) arrived this morning and I’ve spent an hour playing with it.
This will replace my current CSW2.5 (provided I can find a buyer for it!).
The difference to be honest is very marginal. The feeling of pulling against an elecromagnet (which I suspect is really the feeling of the ever so slight flex in the CSW’s two belts) is no longer there. It’s completely smooth and I was able to catch slides on the LMP2 which I’m not sure I would’ve been able to with the CSW2.5.
Turned the steering weight up to the maximum it would go (where the bar was just starting to clip) and it was certainly far heavier steering that I’d want for more than 10 minutes. Unless you’re a weightlifter, I don’t think you’re going to need more torque than the CSL DD can offer!
The wheel shaft is about 5cm/1.5″ longer than the CSW2.5 which means if I mount the base in the exact same spot it’s too close. Going to need to have a bit of a rethink of how it attaches to my Playseat Challenge which I could do without.
So, long story short - it’s a great base and would definitely recommend if upgrading from a Thrustmaster T300 or something in that sort of category. If you have a CSW2.5 already I’d stick with what you’ve got.
This is a bit of a fucker to mount onto a Playseat challenge.
You either have to mount it too far forwards or rotate the plate and put it too far back.

That bit about the Playseat mounting is a bit worrying.

Alex I have the same issue with my Thrustmaster already. On top of that it sits too low for the height of my TV. I tried a rather crude solution but it wasn’t great so I’m thinking about changing my challenge for something else, maybe an Omega ART but I don’t have the funds for it on top of a CSL DD right now.
