I’ve just found the solution to the biggest problem I’ve had with my Quest 2. The head strap. I’ve never been quite comfortable enough to go more than hour without taking the thing off. My huge noggin was not considered during the design process of the elite strap or any of the others that I’ve tried.
They tend to exert too much pressure one way or the other. The elite strap in particular I’ve found to be deeply uncomfortable over time, even if it’s ok for the first half hour or so. The black rubber oval bit that’s supposed to mould to the back of your head simply digs in and by the time I’m done it just gets really painful.
So at the weekend I decided to see if there were any new designs out there, and I found this:
It’s a weird looking thing, it’s more expensive than all but the elite; but I’ve just tried it, and it’s bloody brilliant. The back bit really cradles the back of the skull, and once everything’s tightened up (via the usual dial arrangement at the back) it’s super stable, and I genuinely can’t feel it because the padding is great.
There are two little antennae looking things at the top which rest on the top of your skull. Again the padding here means I can’t feel it, and even though it comes with a top strap like the elite one, it’s optional. I genuinely don’t feel the need for it.
Best of all, the hinge at the front means I can angle the actual visor perfectly, and if I need to engage with the outside world I can just flip it up. The halo section stays in place and then I just flip it down again and continue racing.
This thing is literal genius.
