I’ve had a bit of a go and I do genuinely love the design and aesthetic of it. It’s… bleak rather than horrific I think. Rather suits the story given apparently something globally awful has apparently happened in the past, which we don’t know much about yet.
Gameplay wise is does seem like it’s been ‘tuned’ really well. It feels tough, but so far it hasn’t genuinely ever felt unfair. I can already see using the dodge is going to be REALLY important, and I do like shooters that make you think about more than just ‘get the biggest gun and spray bullets everywhere’
I’m not sure it’s quite as random as they make it out to be though, I did one run and the terrain seemed almost indentical to a run that the PS Access team did on a stream I think yesterday. I suspect it’s more ‘arranging large tiles of map into various combinations’ than actually randomly generating terrain.
I like the combat mechanics, I like the risk/reward mechanisms, I like the design and style.
So far, I like.
