We just watched 1917. Iāve been wanting to watch it since it launched but managed to persuade Rachel to watch it with me tonight.
Honestly one of the best movies Iāve seen in the last decade. It didnāt pull its punches at all, re the journey the main protagonist has to go on, but there wasnāt a single frame where I wasnāt totally engrossed in it.
Cinematography and camera work was pretty incredible as well. From the viewerās point of view itās done in 2 takes. I think I could see about 6 or 7 places where cuts actually took place, but it was phenomenally well done. Even with those hidden cuts, the actual areas that were done in one take were huge. The choreography involved in getting it done, between actors and camera people, must have been ridiculously complicated and well rehearsed.
It is, in my opinion, a really special movie. One of Sam Mendesā best works.
