Jonbwfc same and same. Thanks for saving me a post. 😉
As a lifelong Asimov nerd I’m really really pleased with what I saw. As @GassyHaggis has found out even the first book took a while to start flying along (tbf it’s laying down threads that crossed over each other for millennia in story time and decades in real time), so in a way it was remarkably true to the source.
About halfway through the series Rachel even stopped complaining and put her phone away so it eventually got there imo.
I will say, it does seem to be a trait of Apple series in particular though. The three that I’ve got into so far have ALL taken unusually long to get going. I know this is a wider trend of streaming exclusives but Apple do seem to take their damn time getting to the action.
I actually don’t mind this too much. As long as the cinematography is good then I can happily stare at the ponderously slow panning landscapes for days (and sometimes take notes), but I don’t enjoy constantly persuading my usually patient wife to keep watching until it gets “interesting”.
I’ve been watching Invasion lately. Breathtakingly close to the new War of the Worlds series in style and content at least to begin with, and that also is a long wait broken up by briefly cool alien stuff.
