Just back from the cinema with the kids, went to see Ghostbusters afterlife. Was ok, done funny bits but pretty much the same movie, different location.

Jonbwfc I do fancy this but I was reading the Red Rising series at the time and decided to shelf Expanse until I finished it. Too many books/shows and not enough time!

We just watched Finch tonight. Post apocalyptic thing with Tom Hanks. It’s basically Wall-E x The Road. Fairly saccharine to be honest but it got a little dark too and I’ll admit to enjoying it.

7 megatons out of 10.

Brave watched that a few days ago, nothing amazing, you knew exactly how it was gonna go but enjoyable nonetheless.

Been watching Ted Lasso on Apple TV.

It’s very good and lives up to the hype, but I think in more of a Schitt’s Creek way in that it’s not that funny but has amazing characters and story.

There definitely are some funny moments and it does have some really amazing characters, especially Keeley played by Juno Temple, who is steals every scene she’s in. Also there is a real possibility that I actually am Roy Kent.

My complaints are that is often a bit saccharine and, well, a bit American. Also sometimes it’s a bit too in love with its own dialog and wise cracks, to the point where sometimes a character will say something that is purely there to be witty but doesn’t suit their character at all. It’s gotten better at this in season 2 though.

    Overall it’s highly recommended.

Alex We all wish we were Roy Kent 😂
      He’s here
      He’s there
      He’s every-fucking-where
      Roy Kent
      Roy Kent

I like that despite it being set in a football club, that’s merely the setting and isn’t a character in itself. The football is unimportant, the show is about the great bunch of characters and their relationships.

It’s another Bill Lawrence hit. His list of successful shows continues to grow. He confirmed it’d be a maximum of 5 seasons (assuming it doesn’t get cancelled) as Jason Sudekis said that’s his limit. I think that’s probably a good number and it gives the writers a defined place where they know they need to finish the story how they intended.

Alex loved Ted Lasso - even the missus enjoyed it. Recommended even for people who dislike football.

Just finished Hellbound on Netflix. Another Korean drama, violent, not quite horror, but very good I thought. Looking forward to a second series of they make one.

Don’t watch the sci-fi film G-LOC: it’s terrible (plot, budget effects).

The wheel of time on Amazon prime, don’t know the books at all but so far (only 5 episodes) I’m quite enjoying it, can be a little slow in places but overall decent actors and story so far.

The complete season three of What We Do in the Shadows is on iPlayer, which I only just realised. One of the best sitcoms of the last few years, full of amazing writing and performances. I’m sure I’ve written about it elsewhere on this thread if you care to search.

Jogort I’ve been a fan of the books for a long time and I’m loving it. Wife isn’t. Apparently she doesn’t want a commentary through each episode.

Alex is that the same as the movie? Bunch of vampires trying to have a normal life?

Alex yeah it’s one of the best things I’ve seen for a long time. We were big fans of the film and were initially expecting the TV series to just be nowhere near as good, but it’s been an absolute joy for the last few years.

By the way the latest season of The Expanse is up on Amazon Prime.

Latest episode of Wheel of Time aired last night on Prime, thoroughly enjoying it so far. I’m guessing season 1 will be coming to a conclusion soon judging by what’s unfolding and that it’s 6 episodes in now, I expect probably 8 eps and several seasons.

Started watching ‘Universe’ with Brian Cox (space guy, not the actor).

I could cope with his previous shows, thought his constant ‘very vision of hell’ were a bit maudlin, but the interest factor outweighed that. This thought, watched the first one and I’m left feeling totally depressed. Then he says ‘next time’…. No sodding way pal!

          😁

Found this interesting site that documents the popularity of Netflix shows. The eye watering bit is the viewing figures. A lot of the big TV shows have half a billion views or more. That’s a bit mental.

          https://top10.netflix.com/

Also I’ve never watched Money Heist but it seems very popular.

Alex Didn’t even know there was a remake of Lost in Space, might have to have a nosey at that.

Currently watching “Power On:The Story Of Xbox” on YouTube. There’s six episodes about 40 mins each. I’m 4 episodes in, and absolutely loving it. Essential watching for anyone who’s been on Xbox from the start. And you do come away amazed that that the Xbox even got made.

The Witcher season 2 up on Netflix. Watched a couple of episodes of it last night, good so far!

Alex finished it last night, it was very good. I like that even took a jab at itself and the confusing timelines in the first series. More straight forward this time but still lots of intrigue and layers to it.

Alex Oooo didn’t know that was on now, I will be bingeing this next day or so, really enjoyed Season 1

Power On:The Story Of Xbox is showing on the dashboard now. In UHD gloriousness.

Nice little Easter egg in the subtitles for The Witcher TV show. 😂

This was the quote from the bloke criticising the bard I was on about above - “a bit complicated… took me to the fourth verse to understand there were different timelines.” 😁

DrDamn Yeah I saw that one, that was great! There is also some good references to the “unicorn”, which is another nod to the games (and I think the books though can’t remember).

                Also a big call-back to the game…

The way that Fringilla kills that guy by inserting a knife into his eyeball is exactly how Gaunter O’Dimm kills someone on the boat at the start of Hearts of Stone. Including the whole stopping of time thing. Although there he uses a spoon.

RI lectures are my christmas tradition.

Looking forward to watching this later. I expect lots of “Oi, that’s not what happened at all!” during the SSSV bit.

I’m not a great fan of super-hero films and didn’t watch early ones but will watch modern ones once, now that SFX can better depict super-powers. So enjoyed “Man Of Steel” and liked the actors playing Superman and Lois Lane.

That No Clip/DMA doc is fantastic. Nice to see a piece about the making of GTA3 that acknowledges the right people for once (i.e. there’s next to no mention of the Housers.)

Also a rare pic of me when I still had hair 😮

Gammerz I worked at DMA on SSSV and then GTA3 (which I left after about 9 months - not the best career move as it turned out.) Did some other console stuff for a while then left the games industry for about 15 years. I’ve just recently started making games again, oddly enough with one of the guys I worked on SSSV at DMA with 🙂

                  Into the woods on BBC4

Yes it’s a musical, but it’s a damn good one and genuinely laugh out loud.

We just watched 1917. I’ve been wanting to watch it since it launched but managed to persuade Rachel to watch it with me tonight.

Honestly one of the best movies I’ve seen in the last decade. It didn’t pull its punches at all, re the journey the main protagonist has to go on, but there wasn’t a single frame where I wasn’t totally engrossed in it.

Cinematography and camera work was pretty incredible as well. From the viewer’s point of view it’s done in 2 takes. I think I could see about 6 or 7 places where cuts actually took place, but it was phenomenally well done. Even with those hidden cuts, the actual areas that were done in one take were huge. The choreography involved in getting it done, between actors and camera people, must have been ridiculously complicated and well rehearsed.

It is, in my opinion, a really special movie. One of Sam Mendes’ best works.

Barclaycard were doing a five month offer for AppleTV, so signed up.

Watched the first 2 Episodes of foundation last night. The first episode I thought was ok. Second didn’t go as well for us, but we’ll see as it moves on. But based on what we’ve seen so far think I’d be a little vexxed if I paid for a whole year in advance just for Foundation :-)
