PC Specialist had been out of stock of 3060Ti/3070 for a bit and expected dates getting pushed out, so today caved in one of their standard machines from Currys (they sell fixed spec PC Specialist stuff).

Cunningly allowed me to take advantage of a couple of deals - traded in an og iPad for £155 and paid balance with e-vouchers I get for 7% off, so total cost only £1400. Should be able to collect on Monday.

Jonbwfc well yes there is that. It’s part of a course I’m doing though. It’s a decent and familiar way to introduce animation, rigging etc.

Decided to replace my horrible old case so I picked up this NZXT h510. I must say it’s excellent, one of the best designed cases I’ve ever had, everything just fits perfectly. It also has a USB-C connector on the front-panel, which should be useful going forward. Very pleased with it.

Whoo the Reverb G2 works out of the front USB-C connector. That’s going to make my life much easier, I don’t need a weird jerry rigged setup going through my monitor any more. 😂

Looking for recommendations for a new laptop. It’s mostly for work, so 15” screen minimum, would prefer bigger if possible, and a decent keyboard. Doesn’t need to be cutting edge performance-wise but able to run mid-range gaming stuff would be ideal. Budget up to £1200. This is the front-runner currently :

I’m looking into a similar spec Dell myself right now. Same as that but sticking with the intel graphics, it’ll largely be used for VS so I don’t need much. Problem I have is knowing alder lake is coming in a couple of weeks, but that’s life really.

That doesn’t really help you I know - but it’s always good to share 😀

We get Dell laptops at work (Latitude range), had one for a good 3-4 years now and still going strong.

DrDamn yeah, never really had a problem with Dells. In fact I’ve just done a CPU benchmark review and it looks like my current dell is about 6-7 years old. The 11800 cpu is a touch under twice as powerful in single threaded applications than my current one. 8.5 times more powerful overall.

Add in a m2 hdd and I think the performance difference should be noticeable 😀

Looking at buying a laptop for gaming (primarily racing). Needs to be a laptop so it’s portable and can be used for web browsing by the wife on rare occasions.

The specs are fine on that one but not sure about the reviews, they say the screen isn’t that great. Quick look around and the Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-45) gets a great review and is at your price point:

Very happy with it so far. Runs everything I’ve tried on it no bother. Only complaints would be it’s pretty noisy when running games, and the screen isn’t all that bright, but those seem to be fairly common complaints at this price point.

For my son for Christmas for half decent gaming. A little lower on the specs than yours but not bad for the money.
As others have said when I’m heavy use, certainly my Lenovo they’re very noisy. So if gaming in the same room as others watching TV etc could be an issue.
