GassyHaggis Not dumb questions, I had the same when I started recording clips.
For Shadowplay I use the high preset which is 50kbps. A twenty minute race is around 15GB, give or take. I save videos to an old SSD I have connected.
Editing videos is a bit annoying on Windows, as there are no simple solutions I know of. You can trim clips using VLC, which is something I used to do. Then use Handbrake to compress them.
These days I use DaVinici Resolve, which is a fully featured video editor, but you only need one of two features. There’s a bit of a learning curve but if you just want to trim or make small edits to a video then it’s not too hard. This is what I use to make my shitty highlight videos. Oh, it’s also free, which is nice.
To use Resolve just drop your videos in the manager, then move the clips onto the timeline where you want them. You can resize the clips by dragging the edges, or use the blade tool to slice them up. You can add titles and transitions (just drag them onto the timeline). Once ready go to Deliver to render down to a single video file.
For render settings I use 1080p at 60fps, with medium quality and a high preset. I’m not totally happy with the quality but that’s the best I’ve found so far. I have a 20mbps upload speed now so I try not to compress the videos too much before uploading them so as to keep the quality decent.
