DrDamn I just went for cheap and cheerful and bought this off of Amazon for £39 (although was on sale for £33 when I bought it).
It seems good but some things to note:
- It records in 3 minute clips (like this one) which makes it tricky to watch the whole journey
- The largest SD card it takes is 32GB which gives you about two and a bit hours footage at 1080p, meaning it didn’t have most of my trip. I think if you actually needed to save the footage (e.g. due to an incident) then you’d need to stop it recording so you didn’t risk overwriting it. There might be a better way of handling this.
- You need a card reader to get the footage off of it, so I needed to use my laptop and then transfer the files to my PC
That being said, for the price it’s perfectly good and easy to setup. It connects to the windscreen with a suction pad and plugs into the cigarette lighter. It starts recording when the car starts and goes off when the engine stops. It has a fairly long cable which is more than long enough for my little car and so should be fine for bigger ones. I’ve not had a chance to do proper cable management yet so it’s all a bit dangly. I would say it’s pretty good for the money but I think I might prefer one that makes it easier to watch and save the footage.
Edit: It has got an HDMI port on the camera itself so maybe it works better plugging it into a TV to view things back.
