Went out for my first night out in two years in Edinburgh to celebrate my mate’s fortieth. I rushed to get back to Waverly the next day and left my wallet and phone in the Uber! 🙈

I was stranded in Edinburgh with no money and no way to contact anyone. I was well and truly fucked! Thankfully a kind policeman let me through the barriers and onto the train so I could get back to Glasgow. Also thankfully Scotrail don’t both to check tickets on the train!

Anyway, a bit of a stressful end to my first post-lockdown outing! 😰

Honestly it’s the little details like being unaware of my belongings, that I’ve felt the most when going out. Even just going for a coffee, I feel like a complete noob. 😄 I’m guessing you’re not the only person doing that.

So turns out I had actually left my wallet at my friends flat, so another friend was able to bring it back to Glasgow and I was able to pick it up today. This is good as it means I can buy food! 😂

I have sent a message to Uber about the lost phone, they have a form you can fill in, so I’ll see how that works out. I used the Google lost phone tools to send a signal to the phone to disable it and remove all data. It’s locked with a pin and biometrics, but I do use Google Pay for contactless payments so was worried someone could use it to make small purchases.

After that it’s just a case of cancelling the sim which I’ll wait a little to see if I can get it back. I’m guessing it’s in Uber driver’s interests not to steal phones left in their cab.

Alex I’ve never asked but it seems logical to me that your bank should be able to disable that type of payment for your transaction with your card. On iPhone my card payment details are completely different from those actually on the physical card. It can be confusing sometimes when I’m sorting out a refund and they ask for a card ending in a random number I’m not familiar with…

Good news about the wallet 👍🏻 fingers crossed for the phone.

I’m gonna hold my hands up and say I’ve never had any time for Ruth Davidson. My politics are fairly clear I guess and I never really forgave her for some of the things she said during indyref 1.

However, I have to admit I have no end of admiration for her interview at the end of this channel 4 video from last night. It starts at 13:00. Although it’s the way she finishes off that really got me.

It’s probably the most genuine and affecting I’ve ever seen her or any other modern politician. I try and tell Lily that no matter what a person’s politics, extremists aside, their heart is in the right place. That if we can avoid demonising everyone that doesn’t think alike then we can maybe claw our way back from the Twitter and Facebook abyss we’re at now.

Lily will roll her eyes when I make her watch it, but she’ll remember it nonetheless. 😄

I can’t imagine Boris will survive this. But like the political parasite he is, it’ll be a case of how much work is required to dig him out.

Brave I’m in two minds about the whole thing at the moment. The longer he clings on, the more damage he’s doing to the Tories in general, which can only be a good thing with elections coming up in May. I think they’re underestimating just how angry people are, and I don’t think it’ll be forgotten easily. But then that means in the meantime we have to listen to him spouting lies like the Jimmy Savile thing from yesterday. The fact that he can make accusations like that without any consequences is beyond shocking. Stuff like this seems unsustainable :

Boris has endless opportunities to distract and delay. I said the same on Monday during our Monday night racing with Ken, Prawn and Jay, and suggested the next thing will be that he disappears to Ukraine… along comes Tuesday and guess what! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Preventing politicians from calling people liars in parliament is just trying to keep a lid on heated discussions; in some parliaments, fights break out.

Gammerz When you have a PM who exploits that system to lie openly and repeatedly and other MPs being thrown out for calling him a liar, the whole thing falls apart.

Gordon But this is in no way the first time a politician has lied (it’s in their job description). However, there are ways and means of calling them out and decorum and rules to follow, or else fights break out (which is the worst way that things can fall apart). The rules are clear and you must follow them if you wish to speak and be heard, otherwise you leave. It’s fair for everyone, including BJ.

Gammerz Where’s the decorum when the PM intentionally lies and smears others, safe in the knowledge that nobody can call him on it? The rules were created in a different time, and they assumed that our MPs would have some integrity and would be capable of feeling shame. The whole thing is broken.

A big part of the problem is that a lot of this isn’t based on rules. It’s based on traditions and expectations. In the past it has generally been accepted that if someone knowingly lies to parliament, they would resign. There’s no mechanism to enforce that, so it’s wide open to abuse, as we’re seeing right now.

Popped into Asda the other day to get some bits. Of the people I saw in the store maybe 10% were wearing masks. I know it’s no longer recommended but I prefer to wear mine. I normally shop in Tesco and it’s probably 80% of people wearing masks there. Just one of those things, or is this evidence that Asda shoppers give less of a fuck?

In other news: my eldest daughter has tested positive yesterday 😩. My mother has just confirmed she’s got it too. First time this household has had to self isolate. HELP!!!

Well I succumbed to covid after it was in the house for 4 days. My wife got it 2 days after my eldest daughter tested positive, so it was inevitable really. It’s only been mild for covid standards, yesterday I had a terrible head but it’s much more like a standard cold today. The lack of smell and taste is extremely strange though. Sort of makes the whole experience of eating pretty pointless.

BritishBean I was lucky, I never lost either sense when I had it but other than that it sounds remarkably similar to the symptoms I had.
