Covid: Moscow shops and restaurants shut in partial lockdown

Russia’s overall Covid death toll in the pandemic is officially more than 230,000, the highest in Europe and one of the highest in the world.

The proportion of Russia’s population fully vaccinated remains low - on 23 October it was 32.8%, Most European countries have much higher rates.

Authorities have also given workers across Russia nine days off from Saturday in a bid to curb infections.

Faced with this partial lockdown between 30 October and 9 November, many Russians have decided to go on holiday. Resort hotels in Egypt - a popular destination for Russians - are reported to be fully booked, and Russian flights to Egypt are sold out.

So, poorly vaccinated infected Russians are going on state holidays around the world to spread the virus globally.

People still aren’t getting it (safety, that is, clearly they’re getting Covid), are they????!!!! How long have we been dealing with Covid now?

Having said this, UK are just as bad: they have similar infection graph to Russia.

Gammerz Unfortunately I fear the question of how long have we been dealing with this now is fairly pointless as I think we will never get rid of COVID.

I’ve lost an auntie and a Co-worker to COVID in the last 2 days. Both had underlying health issues, but both were fully vaccinated too. I know people who have been pretty relaxed about it all since they’ve had both their jabs but I think that’s only so effective.

That is pretty fucking stupid of the Russian population though.

In terms of current numbers in the U.K., the problem is much more ‘people who have been fully vaccinated early on but whose immunity is waning because they haven’t had a booster’ catching it from members of their family - predominantly school age children, among whom roughly 1 in 10 are apparently infected at the moment - than the other way around.

Essentially the ‘unboosted elderly’ are no more of a threat than anyone else, but the risk to them is slightly increasing over time. And the most infectious group, statistically, are schoolchildren who have had no vaccination at all. Mix those two together…

The booster portal just opened. It’s understandably Very slow and may not seem like it’s responding. Give it a minute after each submission and you should be good.

If you’re like me and just got letters to tell when to turn up for your jab, you might have to set up your account. You do this by starting the “recover username” process. It’ll tell you that your account hasn’t finished being set up and then you do the usual password stuff

Was pretty easy to go through tbh. And it has your vaccination status, details of all your jabs and any booked ones as well. When I logged in I discovered I have a booster appointment within the next ten days.

January is 6 months for me so no booking showing yet. I’ll book it nearer the time. Thanks for the link

Jogort I think they’ve shortened it to five months (at least in the U.K., not sure where you are right now) so you should be able to get one before Christmas at least.

Jonbwfc in Scotland but on the NHS Scotland thing it said 6 months. I see they’re now saying for anyone over 40 but it didn’t have that option yet. Just the usual groups and over 50.

Haha I’ve seen this before I think when trying to book a test for myself. I did find that amusing.

Working for MOD, I quite often oversee the implementation of new bespoke UX/UI apps and we mandate that they follow the Gov.Uk design principles. We’ve never ended up with a poorly thought out sign-in process though so not sure what NHS’s excuse is.

But I suspect you’ll find in the majority of cases decisions are often by those who do not have a ‘solid grounding’ in interface design. Would I trust then to sort out my Carbnapenem Resistant Enterobacter? - hell yes. Come up with a reasonable interface? - nope.

You can say this makes no sense until you’re blue in the face. I’ve been in 3 hour meetings, saying that, all developers saying the same - ‘ we aren’t designing this for clinicians but the public - they have different expectations’ Feel like you start moving on and bang, original lead moves on and in comes new one. Back to square one.

MadAndy and sometimes it’s not even the people directly involved in the project to make silly decisions. I’m part of a programme at the moment that’s in the public domain and at the top of the very senior food chain there has been an ‘interesting’ and perhaps foolish decision not supported by the programme team which could backfire significantly and publicly.

We’ll all be ‘jabbed, recovered or dead’, warns German health minister. What an appalling, irresponsible and inaccurate thing for a health minister to say. Germany survived last Xmas with fewer people vaccinated and there are people still alive!

And we’ve got the 2nd highest infection rates in Europe.

Gammerz TBF, it’s not a new sentiment. I heard quite a few medical types talking about Delta COVID with it’s higher transmission rate and they basically said ‘you’ve either got to be vaccinated, had delta, or you’re going to get delta’, the idea you just might get lucky and not catch it no longer applied.
