There are still decent rumours of a proper PS5 handheld coming too, but maybe not until PS6 time - which may now have been pushed back (Thanks AI / Jim). Something that would natively play some PS5 titles. You may have noticed some titles now support a low power mode - Demon’s Souls was a recent one. This is meant to be related.

Quite a substantial State of Play last night. Some good gameplay of titles we knew about and some interesting looking new stuff.

Highlights for me

Ghost of Yotei Legends - MP free addition to main title, got some good mileage from the original version of this on GoT
4:Loop - apparently has emergent gaming, I think he mentioned that once or twice… but does look like it delivers on that in an interesting way
Castlevania Belmonts Curse actually looked pretty nice to me - main protagonist’s hair style aside.
Darwin’s Paradox weird, odd, puzzles, great 🙂

Ok so I’ve been given the go ahead to build my media wall and storage for all my consoles. I have had my current 65″ curved Samsung for around 8 years and while still a great screen doesn’t have the newer hdmi 2.1 features.
What’s the recommended telly for ps5 shenanigans? Willing to spend quite a bit as hoping I’ll get around the same life out of it.
What you guys running on?

Jogort LG OLED here. Has served me well for the last 6 years without issue. Not so well up on current tech and options, but the LG OLEDs are still well regarded. One caveat is how bright your room is? It’s better in a lower light room.

There always seems to be a better tech about to take over, micro LED? But I don’t think it’s arrived yet properly and it’s been coming for a while.

What else will you use the TV for? Movies etc?

DrDamn yeah it’s a separate tv/ movie and gaming room. Can be quite bright but the curtains are blackout so darken well.
I have been looking at rtings website but they only review what’s available in USA, no review for example of the Philips OLED 950. I’m quickly learning about all the new tv gubbins, mine has none of it and just basic hdr, now there’s about 5 flavours of hdr 🤣😭🤣

I’m going to lay this at Jim’s feet again because, clearly, the live service thing was a ridiculous demand of them, but the rest of Sony could have avoided this. What an unnecessary, shitty decision to make.

Already in use in RE:Requiem and in March a system update will add a toggle for it to be used in existing PSSR titles - which is interesting as I didn’t think they could do that. I.e. I thought games ships with PSSR version x.x will always use PSSR version x.x.

Gordon ah ok. There is a game called retrieval but it has no release date as yet. Never heard of it until now.

Be interesting to see any improvements in Black myth wukong, been playing that on and off but it can feel a little janky at times in the pretty mode
