Jogort So I made a decision, not going to wait for new models as they’ll likely be out of my budget for the top ones. So today the Sony Bravia 8 II arrived. I had considered the LG G5, Samsung S95 and the Philips 950 (I really like the ambilight) but none of them had all of the latest hdr or dolby etc so I’ve gone with a brand of tv I’ve never had before and from what I’ve read and watched it looks stunning for movies and has some nice functions with the PS5 also.
Some specs
QD-OLED
HDR formats HLG, HDR10, Dolby Vision
Operating system Google TV
HDMI inputs x 4 (2 × 48Gbps HDMI 2.1)
Gaming features 4K/120Hz, VRR, ALLM, Dolby Vision game mode
So during setup I see this monstrosity of a power lead. It doesn’t unplug, you have to remove a cover thankfully just 1 screw and disconnect this connector!! What the hell is wrong with a standard figure 8 2 pin plug like almost everyone else will use. Not only is it a stupid connection is about a meter long, I have my cabling hidden in the wall down to my unit below and this barely reaches my extension, now I’ll have to extend it myself instead of just buying a longer cable when I build my media wall
Anyway enough of that stupid thing, the picture is beautiful, doubt you can tell from a photo but I’ve never seen such perfect blacks, no grey, no blockyness so far. Not really tested yet but looking forward to giving it a go.
