Been getting quite into Divinity Original Sin 2, which I owned a box copy of for PS4. I have a vague memory of playing about 40 minutes of it before noping out. This time I’ve found it has has grabbed me much more, likely due to having now spent a lot of time with BG3.
After the opening level the combat was really kicking my arse, but after spending some time getting my chars to level 3 with non-combat quests, then also just chucking on any equipment I could find (your chars start in rags), things started to get a bit easier.
There is a lot more area effects in this, pretty much every fight ends up with the floor covered in fire or electrified water or all sorts, which ends up limiting movement a lot. You need to stock up on things you can use to counter it, like water balloons and buckets of water.
I am starting to find my feet with the combat a bit more, as without all the D&D rules it’s actually a bit simpler conceptually.
The game is very slow and very deliberate though, you basically spend so much time just working through the world at a very small scale, room by room, item by item. Like BG3 it’s a game about the details. I enjoy the slow pace of it now, and also the very strategic and tactical nature of the combat. It’s basically XCOM with elves.
I also only just discovered the gift bags, a couple of which I’ve turned on. The pet pal one is a must have, and I was initially really annoyed at myself for not taking it as a talent. I think I was thrown by BG3 and it being available as a scroll in that game. Anyway, that’s been resolved and I am now able to fully converse with my furry friends.
Still working my way through Fort Joy.
