Interesting discussion on GamePass and how it will evolve in the future going on. First off there were rumours about EA Play (formerly EA Access) becoming part of it somehow. Then Geoff Keighley used the words “basic cable package” in a discussion of GamePass. Further cryptic messages from Jez Cordon on twitter. What does it all mean?
I think they are heading for a Cable-TV / Sky-TV like model where the XBox Studios output plus smaller and older third party titles (as now) make up your basic package. You can then add on EA Play for your sports “channels” for example, maybe they have deals with other big publishers too. All this linking in to xCloud - the packages you have in GP are the packages you have available on xCloud.
It’s a very different approach, and one some won’t like, but it actually makes more sense when you look back at previous comments from MS about Sony not being their main competitors anymore. Google and Amazon are because this sort of model is closer to them.
