Is this confusing the issue or not? Dunno, am confused.

I found the term “xbox gamepass for pc” very confusing. Gamepass as a generic term for both xbox and pc seems more reasonable, though I guess you can still get PC-only games on Gamepass. MS are clueless about naming: Xbox, X360, XBox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X - it just gets worse. They’re digging themselves into a deeper hole each time they name/rename something.

At least with this release there won’t be an unwanted piece of hardware (disKinect). 😆

It would be better, IMO, if it just went completely platform agnostic. Right now there’s XBox game pass for XBox, XBox game pass for PC and XBox game pass ultimate (I think) which is essentially the first two in a bundle.

Maybe rebrand as ‘Microsoft Game pass’ and upgrade everyone to Ultimate but still paying whatever they were previously paying for say the first year. They need to get the name ‘Xbox’ out of it really - as long as that’s also a specific hardware platform, it’s clouding the issue. And as @Gammerz says ‘Xbox Game Pass for PC’ was always a clunky way of describing something..

I can see it makes sense, but it would have made more sense to do it before renaming MS Studios to Xbox Studios. Find something platform agnostic and name everything after that. There is a lack of consistency and clarity.

The setup pictures show an XSX, a phone and a laptop but no series S. Plot twist, Series S is the second picture, it’s just a screen! S = Screen! There were even rumours that the XSX wouldn’t ship with a controller to save money…

It’s meant to have a different form factor though. Flatter, employees were meant to be taking them home hidden in X1 cases. That one you’ve pointed out is an XSX form factor.

I don’t realistically think an XSS is a screen, it was just a very unlikely possibility that seemed to fit a couple of pieces of information. It would be a bit mad if it was.

Would be very cool if they were doing something actually more like a switch competitor though.

But wow. Xbox are floundering in a way I really didn’t see (nor want to see) coming. That kind of makes it a very admirable decision tbh. Priorities seem right.

Yeah, I think the big positive is that they are allowing it to be delayed, MS of three past may not have done that. That’s huge news though.

Feels like they’ve acknowledge the backlash from the recent event and decided to take more time to refine visuals to me. COVID was an easy excuse to use. Xbox without Halo or Forza at launch… ouch. I won’t be getting one.

It seemed to me there was indications this might happen. Talk of spending time polishing the vertical slice they showed meant the rest of it also needed more time. You shouldn’t need much time to polish a slice for a game 3 months from release. Which incidentally they’ve confirmed XSX is launching in November. The lack of RT the lack of build ready to show running on XSX.

Interesting they’ve just said 2021 though, which to me sounds like they need a lot more time.

It’s weird, isn’t it? Phil Spencer comes across so well and really seems to get it, and then there’s Aaron Greenberg.

Gordon it’s definitely not coming across as particularly joined up.

It all feels a bit like there’s some kind of power struggle behind the scenes. I mean where’s Larry Hryb? All I see him doing is social media management now and that’s Greenberg’s territory now too?

They seem to be throwing their advantage.
