Quite bulky so I hope it still fits in the TV unit. Roll on ‘Holiday’ 2020…

    That’s a pretty odd name, and suitably confusing with the X1X too. I thought the name was mean to reflect capabilities/use or something. All that seems to reflect is that they couldn’t come up with something interesting or distinctive. Not that PS5 is interesting, but at least it’s consistent.

    Might indicate a widening of SKUs as it “Series” opens the door to more.

    Edit: Just watched video - quite like the design mind. Bolder but still stylish.

    I’m OK with the design, except that it looks a bit bulky, but that’s probably down to the amount of cooling that the specs will require. They’ve gone from a tablet CPU in the X to a 3.5ghz Ryzen and those things run hot, not to mention the big upgrade the GPU has got.

    So what we thinking in terms of abbrev. XSX, XBSX, SX?

      Looks pretty funky and big 😱
      Don’t think I’ll be getting one though, my days of the 2 main consoles are gone, just don’t have the time these days.

      Alex XBox SeX seems to be the obvious one people will pick up on, though that opens the door to PS5 - better than SeX!

      It’s basically a pc tower isn’t it?

      BritishBean Yes, it’s horrendous and another badly thought out MS mess. I suppose they’ve got to make one this gen too (X360:RROD->X1:Kinect->SuX:tower design).

      “ The new controller will also be backwards compatible to use on the current Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.”. Not the other way around then? No significant difference, but making X1 controllers compatible with SuX would involve loss of profits for one of the richest greediest companies in the world.

        No one will confuse this with Xbox One X, just like the very clear Wii and Wii U. Oh wait…
        @MistaLarge haha exactly.
        “I’d like an Xbox One X please”
        “a series?”
        “No, just one”
        “One Xbox One X or One Series X”
        “What? Wait, I’ll just take four candles instead”

        @tialt Do you want four candles or fork handles?

        @MARATXXX Surely you can’t be Series X.

        @MARATXXX There very series

        Well, I’ll have to eat my hat! Good move MS.

        Maybe that tower design is to facilitate the option to upgrade the internal components as per a PC, as there is also a EU directive to move towards replaceable parts/eco friendly design? Wasn’t there rumour of this last gen?

          DrDamn good news. I’d like to continue to use my series 1 Elite gamepad until I eventually replace it with the 2nd gen version.

          What do we reckon price wise then?

            Gammerz design is because it needs the size for cooling. Both next gen machines are going to need good cooling systems and space.

            BritishBean bit of cat and mouse between the two and how much they are willing to eat in terms of loss per box. I think we should expect $499/£450. Is be pleasantly surprised if it’s lower. The CPU, GPU, Ray tracing, SSD tech and cooling are all going to cost.

            BritishBean I think we’ll see the Lockhart at 300 and the series X at 400 or slightly below. Last gen, the killer blow was right at the start when PS4 came in way cheaper then x1.

            They launched x1 at £429 and Sony immediately murdered them by coming in so far under that price point it was laughable.

            These consoles have always been a loss leader, but even more so for MS now. They want gamepass everywhere so I think they’ll sacrifice immediate profits.

            The one thing that makes it hard to figure out is what they’re going to do with x1x. I was reading the other day that Lockhart is 4TF, while the x1x is already 6TF.

            I realise that TFs aren’t everything, but that’s still a significant difference. Which makes me wonder if the 1x is ready to just slot into that “series X” line. It’s already in the name.

              Brave Lockhart would still outperform X1X. 4TF RDNA is not far off 6TF Polaris (?) In terms of performance. Add in a much, much better CPU and the target of 1080p as output. The other thing I think Lockhart makes sense in is the xCloud servers. If the majority will be streaming at 1080p why back it up with 12TF servers?

              PS release prices have been dropping (PS3 = $600 - a mistake, PS4 was $400). PS5 is rumoured at $500 or £400. The new Xbox will have to compete or undercut that (or exceed power for higher price). So I think Scarlett will be same price for slightly higher performance.

              DF chat about Series X reveal.

              So if Series X is a series of consoles, what will the individual consoles be called? Series X Scarlett and series X Lockhart? What about Y and Z? 😉 There’s also roman numerals: XI and XII.
