Alex summoning/offering yourself basics.
NB: only through summoning do you progress your story, but offering yourself had nice advantages with no risk.
Summoning
Use a Furlcalling Finger Remedy. This allows you to see where others have left summon signs and bring in up to 2 more people (or NPC). Kill the boss and they return, you progress your story. If you bring in another player then you can’t use spirit ashes to, but you can if you summon an NPC.
You can find the gold summon signs anywhere, but usually by Graces, fog doors or summoning pools (Y shaped things in there ground).
You can craft Furlcalling Finger Remedy from Erdleaf Flowers which are all over the place.
Offering Yourself
Use a Tarnished’s Furled Finger. This puts down a summon signs where you are, but it will disappear if you wander out the area.
Use the Small Golden Effigy. This will put your summon sign in the nearby or further summoning pools (you choose) for others to pick up.
When summoned you get your flasks halved.
Offering yourself is a great way to size up a boss battle before attempting yourself. If successful you get a Furlcalling Finger Remedy, a Rune Arc and a chunk of runes. The rune arc is really helpful.
If you fail you just get kicked back to your world minus any regular expendibles used (arrows, throwing knives etc).
