The fall damage takes a bit of getting used to! Was just repeatedly trying to make a running jump to a platform dropping down a short distance when failing. Almost died because I didn’t notice the chunks being taken off my health all the time.
Oh and not even got to the first boss and been invaded already …
Elden Ring
Got to imagine they’re going to announce something else at TGA.
This year’s gaming anthem. /chef’s kiss

Carbot animations are amazing. They’ve made one Elden Ring animation every week or so since launch and most of them have been brilliant.
Feck it, here’s the playlist (burger menu top right)
What would be the best platform to play this on PS5 or XSX?

Right, first hour done, up until my first “proper” death. Have to go make dinner now. I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. Actually quite enjoying it.
To be honest not a fan of the white message spam being everywhere. Already made a rule to never upvote anything that demands to be upvoted.

Currently working my way through the Acolyte School, reached what seems like the first significant boss which is a big wolf thing. It was handing me my arse quite a bit so not sure if it’s a gear/level check or if I should just invite another player.
I’ve enjoyed it quite a bit although it’s been pretty easy so far. This school bit is the first time it’s felt very souls-y. Those magic chucking wizard twats can do one. I find the only way to deal with them is the pull them one by one and break line of sight.
I’m playing as a bit of a dual sword/magic guy which is quite fun. It’s the first I’ve ever done anything range-y in a souls game and I’m liking it. I’ve just been putting most of my runes into vigour and strength, and a bit into one of the magic related ones I can’t remember the name. I understand you can respec later so I’m not stressing it too much.
Anyway, good times.

Alex highly recommend trying them.
Whenever you see this icon, you can summon them. You equip them like a consumable or your health flask, and use the same button to summon them. You can’t resummon them in the same area until you die and then come back but they can do a fine job of distracting attention from you. I’ve found the jellyfish to be surprisingly tanky when levelled up, but the wolves are a dependable shout.

I was pure magic in my first play through, and the academy was by far the toughest area for me. You just can’t do the requisite amount of damage against them with effectively the same damage type as them. There is a great armour set - the Carian Knight - which has great magic defence in there though. Very much worth finding and wearing , if only for that area.
Generally, no matter what build you have, there’ll be an area or two that you’re comparatively weak in. The academy tends to be a ‘mare for magic welders, but also very much worth doing because of all the magic specific goodies you’ll pick up there.

I actually started again last week as a way to entertain Rachel who is still dealing with the aftermath of the Xmas flu (yay us). I’m going fairly traditional strength based sword and shield with a bit of faith. Basically a paladin. I almost never go sword and shield so it’s quite fun trying it out.
Not planning on ploughing through like I did the last few times, it’s more of a “between games” game now. What’s surprised me is how busy it still seems to be. My last playthrough it seemed like things were quieter, more difficult to summon help and definitely to be summoned. I found that rather than using the finger to lay down a specific summon sign, the branch thing that you wave in the air suddenly made more sense as it made me available to lots of people in various other arenas nearby.
This time though, I’m getting summoned to help fairly readily in obscure catacombs that I previously had no chance of helping anyone in if I’d just plonked a sign down there specifically.
They must have had a fairly large influx of new and returning players.
