The fall damage takes a bit of getting used to! Was just repeatedly trying to make a running jump to a platform dropping down a short distance when failing. Almost died because I didn’t notice the chunks being taken off my health all the time. 😮
Oh and not even got to the first boss and been invaded already …

Alex when it first came out PS5 frame rate was much more consistent. Doubt that was ever overturned but XSX should be better than it was.

Currently working my way through the Acolyte School, reached what seems like the first significant boss which is a big wolf thing. It was handing me my arse quite a bit so not sure if it’s a gear/level check or if I should just invite another player.

I’ve enjoyed it quite a bit although it’s been pretty easy so far. This school bit is the first time it’s felt very souls-y. Those magic chucking wizard twats can do one. I find the only way to deal with them is the pull them one by one and break line of sight.

I’m playing as a bit of a dual sword/magic guy which is quite fun. It’s the first I’ve ever done anything range-y in a souls game and I’m liking it. I’ve just been putting most of my runes into vigour and strength, and a bit into one of the magic related ones I can’t remember the name. I understand you can respec later so I’m not stressing it too much.

Anyway, good times.

Alex more players for the wolf thing is a good idea, allows you a break to heal etc. Very small tight space for the battle. Have you been using your Spirit Ashes?

I was pure magic in my first play through, and the academy was by far the toughest area for me. You just can’t do the requisite amount of damage against them with effectively the same damage type as them. There is a great armour set - the Carian Knight - which has great magic defence in there though. Very much worth finding and wearing , if only for that area.

Generally, no matter what build you have, there’ll be an area or two that you’re comparatively weak in. The academy tends to be a ‘mare for magic welders, but also very much worth doing because of all the magic specific goodies you’ll pick up there.

Alex You can respec but it requires a consumable item which is in relatively short supply, so don’t do it too often.

Whenever you see this icon, you can summon them. You equip them like a consumable or your health flask, and use the same button to summon them. You can’t resummon them in the same area until you die and then come back but they can do a fine job of distracting attention from you. I’ve found the jellyfish to be surprisingly tanky when levelled up, but the wolves are a dependable shout.

Yeah I’ve found that the magic isn’t working well in the school. I’m more melee than magic though so it’s been okay for me. I have found that armour set which was nice.
