It’s a bit too rich for me. Despite plenty of previous I won’t be biting this time.
Not sure my eyes can see the difference these days!

I’ve got a 15% off PSN voucher from when Sony sent my headphones a day late. That brings it down to £595, which is still absurd but I might actually cave. PS6 is probably 4 years away.
I mean. If you have to flick between the two to see even the slightest difference…
From my own experience as a photographer, if I’m doing that with two variations of an image, I was actually finished ages ago.
I don’t think these are great examples because Sony’s games tend to have pretty decent IQ even in performance mode. There have been a few games recently where the resolution difference between performance and quality modes is really jarring though. FFXVI is one - in performance mode, it’s really muddy and hard to make out what’s going on at times with all the particles and other stuff flying around. Looks great in quality mode, but then it feels like shit because combat is very fast paced. FFVII Rebirth is even worse in performance mode, it looks very low res.
If the Pro can fix cases like that it would be a genuinely noticeable improvement, not just visually but in how the game plays. Not saying there’s £700 worth of improvement to be had, mind you.
It’s always this way with modern graphics, we stopped getting graphical leaps a couple of generations ago, even something big like TLOU remake requires a side-by-side to really appreciate the differences. My understanding is the main difference between pro and vanilla will be image quality and framerate, both things you can’t really see from a compressed image.
Why do devs always try to push a console beyond its limits? They’re opening a can of worms - first there was the option of speed vs graphics in software and now this is extending into hardware, having multiple performance versions of the same console. One of the main attractions of a console is to have a level playing field without all this game spec requirements checking of PC gaming - yes it’ll run but at what speed or graphics standard?

Some really nice upgrades here. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is interesting. It goes from 30ish to 50ish FPS in the worst case which is inside the VRR window so should look nice and smooth, and is upscaled to 4K. Hopefully bodes well for Monster Hunter Wilds. I’m in if I can get one.
The F1 game looks great, wish I was interested in playing it.
That DF video has sold me on it a bit more than before.
Just doing a bit of maths, I can sell the XSX and PS5 together to CEX for £480. So… we’re talking a £220 upgrade.
So I have my phone & PC in a queue now, 1 at 10 minutes wait and 1 at 7 minutes, let’s see if I get one. Seeing a few on german Ebay already for stupid money.
aaaaaand….unavailable
I got an order in for the normal Pro. It’s still showing as available on the store for me.
