Some of these articles are well planted seeding of a narrative MS wants to get out there to soften the blows. Some will be more a reaction to and expansion of the others - for example this one references the Navok Twitter thread you posted @Alex.
What I found a poor with this article is that based on the key point …
The end result is that for major, AAA game productions, the sums don’t add up any more.
They only suggest two possible solutions for MS and Sony 1) increase the price of games or 2) increase your audience by adding more platforms. The slightly obvious 3) don’t spend so much damn money making games seems to be a Nintendo exclusive. They also don’t explore anything along the lines of increasing your audience by reducing their costs. Reduce your price and sell more is a valid marketing tactic. Console prices have barely reduced from launch after nearly 4 years and game prices are maintaining higher values for the bigger titles. That is going to have had a big impact of the size of your potential audience.
Just as a little addendum, despite all this and the rounds of layoffs earlier in the year, the PS5 is Sony’s most profitable Console generation to date …
