I think the unspoken advantage he arguably has is Carlos Sr as a mentor. If there’s anyone who can coach him to shoulder extreme pressure, it’s daddy boy. 2 world championships, 4 runner ups, even Spanish squash champion. That man knows everything there is to know about thriving under pressure and standing your ground in a team situation.
It might actually be the lack of guidance at that level with Leclerc (Jock Clear aside) that’s starting to show through here. The way he stood his ground in the previous race was a Sainz Sr hallmark.
It’s this stuff that I find really fascinating about F1. I liken F1 to something like having the Olympics on a near weekly basis. The levels of pressure seem very similar so it’s fascinating watching how these drivers are coping with it as the season moves on.
