Ok. I’m having a major laptop nightmare.

I hibernated my laptop last night, waited for it to fully shut down before closing the lid and stored it beside my chair as usual last night.

When I came down this morning it had switched itself on Jebas knows for how long, and was really quite hot. Since then I’ve spent the day pretty much trying to solve a “page fault in nonpaged area” error. It displays a filename as well as although I can’t remember what it is.

I get stuck in boot loop most of the time. Sometimes I get into the boot options to reset or repair Windows, but it keeps asking me for my password and then telling me it’s incorrect, which is feckin infuriating. I even managed to boot into Windows at one point, changed my password ( which required me to use my initial “incorrect” one first) and then when I get into the boot loop again ( which always begins with the page fault error) it still tells me it’s incorrect.

I’ve tried the main ways to solve this on Tom’s Hardware, which leads me to believe that my SSD boot drive is on the Fritz. I can only believe due to whatever caused it to overheat overnight. There’s been yet more headlines about catastrophic BSoDs after the latest Windows update and this time I think I’ve been a victim. Pretty pissed off tbh, between this and the blood clot. It’s been a fairly shite week.

I’ve tried a basic restore Windows option which was fairly quick and allowed me to keep some of my data but I just got the page fault error again.

So next I’m going to try a complete nuclear option and flatten the SSD. All my creative work is in a second 2 TB HDD so it should be safe. I’m backing it up anyway and hoping that the page fault error doesn’t happen in the middle of it.

Am I missing anything here? I’ve ordered a 1 TB SSD ( sata 3 ) to replace the one that I think is going byebye. Should arrive on Sunday. I believe PC Specialist laptops are reasonably easy to open up and replace the SSD but I could use some pointers there too.
