Watched some videos of this and it does look like a really good remake, will wait though as it’s forcing me to pay through and finish The Calisto Protocol, which is running much better now on PC and is absolutely stunning to look at at times.

Really enjoying this. Think I’m on chapter 5 now. Have just encountered my first couple of brutes. It looks really bloody good imo, which only goes to enhance the tension and grimness. Lots of moody lighting, industrial reflections and gooey things.

Top tip. You can hit sprint whilst running backwards 😄

The plasma cutter is still the best weapon imo, but the others definitely seem to have been beefed up too. Really fun to use. Oh and picking up an alien spikey foot with kinesis, then impaling his mate onto a wall with it? Never gets old.

@Brave Following on from our conversation last night about image quality and not being able to see the problem everyone was complaining about - I got the patch that improves it today and it does look noticeably better now 😂

I’ve finally had a chance to actually play a bit now. It’s very good indeed. I’m finding it quite difficult (on normal/default settings), can’t remember if the original was the same. Maybe I just suck more now, that seems highly plausible.

I’m not finding it too hard actually, on normal difficulty. Dismemberment is the key, you need to cut off their leg first so they’re hobbled and then shoot off their arms. Then once they’re dead stomp on them to stop them coming back.

Alex That’s what I’ve been doing. I think there’s a skills deficit issue, sadly.

My advice would be to keep upgrading that plasma cutter. The other weapons have definitely been buffed in the remake, but the cutter’s utility is still amazing. Also, once you take a limb off, grab it with kinesis and fire it at a gooey spikey monster. Saves tonnes of ammo and can be a one shot kill if your aim is good.

Same goes for some of the furniture. If you melee some bog standard shelves (the ones with the light on top of each leg), then each leg will suddenly become a potential deadly projectile.

In a proper pen, paper and dice roleplaying game my character killed the final boss of a major campaign by hurling a sofa at him. Never underestimate the lethal nature of furniture!

What a remake. Just one tiny thing took away from perfection. An unskippable cutscene just before the very tough final boss fight. That’s the only thing.

I think this flips the script a little when it comes to folk saying x game doesn’t need a remake. This might not have needed one. But blimey does it get elevated by this one.

Much like Demon’s Souls, I felt like I was playing it for the first time, again.

But

Fuck. That.

I noped my way through the entire thing. I’m not playing a horror game until Dead Space 2 remake. That was my absolute limit.

Need a bunny rabbit game now.

On chapter ten and I’m finding the Ripper my go to weapon now, it’s great for keeping enemies at a distance, especially ones that charge you quickly. With some upgrades it’s pretty powerful and will kill smaller enemies in a second or too, giving you time to finish off the big fucks.
