Wales were quite bad in their match against Switzerland and have failed to win the easiest match in their group, so they’re going out. I remember at one point, 4 Welsh attackers standing like statues next to their markers on the edge of the box, while a midfielder was desperately looking for a passing opportunity. Also, lots of inaccurate long-balls, losing possession. This is how England used to play but have improved a lot since embracing a more continental style, with shorter passes instead of long-balls.
Edit: Forgot about the Swiss goal that was disallowed due to a player’s knee being a couple of inches off side. An example of the letter of the law being interpreted without bearing in mind the spirit of the law: if your defence relies on this, it’s not very good - the goal should’ve been allowed as the attacker gained no advantage.
England were good in the first quarter and less so late in the 2nd half, but where was Kane? He converted a very short-range opportunity and was the lowest rating of our players. He was so bad, they had to sub the captain! The BBC described him as “subdued”: ha! I fast-forwarded twice through the post-match commentary and didn’t spot any replays or analysis of his miss! Did they criticise him at all?
In both matches, our kick-off consisted of booting it down the pitch to the opposition, instantly losing possession with inaccurate passing, whereas Croatia kept possession after their kick-off.
