GassyHaggis Gordon Completely off topic but… Bluey! I aspire to be a dad like hers. I went 64gb but I’m in a similar camp. Did it just in case.
Gordon GassyHaggis I love Bluey, it’s genuinely one of my favourite TV shows ever. Also an excellent parenting manual - we routinely ask ourselves “what would Bandit do?”
Deej Agreed. Suspect we won’t get the chance to buy one at first so it will give a chance for some proper reviews before any real money needs dishing out.
JayFantana Certainly intrigued by this bit of kit, the specs and pricing is certainly working in its favour for me. I’m gonna wait til next year (not that you have a choice now). As I’ve got my PC a couple months ago and now absolutely drinking the Master Race cool aid, be nice to have a wee pocket rocket to ignore the world with too.
DrDamn The power comparisons are very interesting. Where you look at graphical power per pixel then this is comparable to XSX. Which is silly impressive. It starts raising all sorts of ideas. Set it up with a Windows install (dual boot?) and it becomes a GamePass machine too. That has to have both MS and Sony having a think.
DrDamn Something I gathered from a developer video, which I want aware of, is that not running Windows is not a big issue for game compatibility as they have this funkiness called Proton that magically makes stuff compatible.
Alex I’m actually slightly wary of those controls, as I found the Steam Controller was difficult and unintuitive to use. You had to spend ages configuring the controllers before you could play anything, it was a massive pain in the arse. Valve left creating profiles for the controller to the community, which meant they were a hugely mixed bag and hard to find as you had to go looking through the workshop. Hopefully they improve the system massively this time.
Jogort Gordon holy shit it’s big, I take it these sold out instantly. Not that I need one but you know…. Gadgets🤣
Gordon Jogort They’re still taking orders - says delivery expected “after Q2 2022” for new orders, which is the same as my preorder from July last year. https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck/
Alex You know I actually might like it being bigger, I find the Switch a bit too small for my tastes. But I’m not really into handhelds, for me gaming is a big TV experience like watching a movie. I’ve just never been able to engage with handheld stuff.
DrDamn Alex yeah, I have big hands and a larger machine is not a problem. I’d like to see how screen sizes compare when stuff is actual switched on too. Is the Steamdeck a touch sensitive screen?
DrDamn Answering myself yes touch screen, 7″. Little bigger than normal Switch, same size as OLED switch. I’d prefer 8 or 9 inches … but we get what we are given fnar, fnar, titter, fnark etc.
Gordon Looks pretty much the same size as a Switch with the Hori split controllers attached, which is perfectly comfortable in my experience.
