I’m sure most were the same as me, would get posters of supercars for birthdays/Christmas etc. Had the usual Lamborghini Countach and Ferraris but my favourite was always the Porsche 911 whale tail yuppy killer, absolutely stunning car

Silly money then and now even more so, they’re collectors items but they were boyhood dreams and coming from a pretty poor family never ever thought I’d be able to afford anything like that. Had so many shit jobs over the years from selling crap door to door (and even kirby hoovers at one point) to double glazing…. Jeez.
I always find it amazing that I ended up in the job i am and that I get paid well for it.
So cut to the chase the boyhood dream became reality yesterday 😱😱
At the dealer

At home

This thing is amazing, a 2007 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, 3.8L flat 6 4 wheel drive monster go-kart.
I giggled all the way home from the dealer yesterday, i can’t describe how amazing it is to drive. Yeah it’s 14 years old now but it’s in mint condition and only done 47k miles. I still can’t believe I own it🤩🤩🤩

Jogort changed the title to Boyhood Dreams .

So, how much is the insurance? 😁

Looks great, very jealous. My new-ish car purchase last year was a Hyundai Ioniq. Not quite the same, but I can switch it to “sport” mode. Top Trumps wise I might only win on mpg though. 😊

DrDamn actually very good on insurance, I’m only £400 fully comp with the gf on as named driver also and that’s with 3 points for speeding 🤣🤣

Lovely! I want a direct comparison video at Knockhill when it launches on iRacing ;-)

Jogort Jesus you must be ancient! Mine is £600 comprehensive for a 17 plate bmw 520d and that’s with no points!

Anyway, that’s absolutely amazing mate, very happy for you (and a lil bit jealous 😉). Just make sure you YouTube “Nurburgring track day fails” whenever you think a track day might be a good idea 😉.

BritishBean haha I’m one of the “younger” bunch here….. Just, not down on your level though 🤣🤣
Oh i very nearly done a track day at the ring 2 years ago on my bike but the gf had a small crash on hers (no bad injuries) the day before while we were touring/camping through Germany. I’ve watched loads of ring crash videos 🤣🤣😱😱

Jogort +1′d your post, not because of the shiny car, but how you managed to turn your life around. Well done. You deserve your boyhood dream.👏

            3 years later

So….I’ve had the 911 for almost 3 years and it’s been amazing to own, absolutely loved driving this every time I get in……but I have been having an itch for something a little different. So the Porsche was sold last week and yesterday I flew down to Birmingham and then a train to Redditch to pick up the replacement….

Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrofoglio, what an absolute weapon of a 4 door family saloon. It has a 2.9 V6 Bi-Turbo putting out 510BHP and is rear wheel drive 🤣🤣
It was a 400+ mile drive home and coming from the Porsche I wasn’t sure what to expect, yes I’d watched all the youtuber car press people absolutely loving the car, talking about it’s perfect weight balance and amazing handling but most of my journey was a motorway cruise with the occasional switch to race mode to hear the exhaust valves open (annoying that they only do it in race mode but I’ve bought a box that gives me a remote switcher😝 ) but race mode also turns off ALL traction control etc so not ideal for some roads up here.
The car is loaded with carbon, side skirts, trim inside, bonnet and roof are all carbon, even the prop shaft is carbon fiber. The lower front splitter is also carbon and has actuators that lower it to increase downforce on the car 🤣
The rear has a diffuser and there are channels along the underside of the car for directing air also, crazy.
Anyway, love it is an understatement, here’s a couple more pics

            0 to 62 mph (secs) - 3.9
            Top Speed (mph) - 191
            😮

Very nice. Errr, how much is your insurance? 😃 (edit - realised I asked this last time!). Mine which was reasonable a couple of years ago has gone up by a good chunk each of the last two years. Partly the general market but also now have 3 claims in the last 5 years. All of which were when car was parked and other people causing damage, but we only managed to get one of the other parties, so two count as “fault”. 1 catalytic converter theft, 1 minor damage to bumper in supermarket car park, one larger damage to bumper when parked. Renewal this year is about £700. Was under £300 two years ago.

DrDamn Ours went from £250 to over £500. No claims, nothing changed. I queried it and they basically said “If you don’t like it, you can go elsewhere because we can charge what we like”

DrDamn Yeah it’s a frighteningly quick motor, was out for some sunny day fun today, it’s so so much fun.
Insurance was about what I expected, some stupid quotes but managed to get it for 750 fully comp, that’s with 1 no fault claim and 3 points for speeding 🤣🤣 the points are gone from June this year, 5 years and out.
Cat theft is mental, have heard of it happening but don’t know of anyone up here getting it done, probably in the likes of Edinburgh or Glasgow though.
