So a quick update. The Kid is loving it. 🙂

She dropped computing in school after summer last year because her teacher was a dinosaur and an ass (the course material includes a bit on Netscape ). Which is just one of the many exasperating problems I’ve come across with the school.
I brought her up to be active and be interested in computer science and art. She now hates P.E. and quit karate, dropped computing and nearly threw in the towel in art last year too, because her teacher couldn’t even remember her name. It’s a constant feeling of being sabotaged.

Anyway. The course seems super well constructed. The guy gives you the tools to go and find out what you need, gives you the pseudo code, and then you go away and make it.
She’s already well on her way to finishing an asteroids clone. The original idea was that it could just fill up the space in the school day that wasn’t being adequately filled, so she could finish at 3:30 and just relax. Instead, she’s working well into the evening. It’s really lovely to see.
I’m under no illusions that it’ll keep going like that forever, I can but hope. But the course itself seems ace. 😉
