Warning: Totally don’t know what I’m talking about.
OK. I bought my daughter the top-ranked Udemy course on game dev in Unity, and it went well for the first couple of hours but now she’s running into an issue with UnityEngine(?). She’s trying to use it in Visual Studio as per her next tutorial and I think certain parts of the code are supposed to change colour and give her follow-up options? That’s what she’s saying anyway.
Doing a little bit of research I found some stuff about UnityEngine.dll being in the wrong place, and have discovered that she got the installer to install to a non-default drive. So my first port of call is to get her to make space on C: drive, and then get her to uninstall everything and reinstall it there.. So that’s happening right now.
However. I’m also seeing in my search, that isn’t always the answer. So I’m basically forewarning anyone who knows Unity and VS that if this doesn’t work I may be bugging you for some troubleshooting. I really want her to get past this hurdle.
She’s keen to use the time now to give herself a leg up when it comes to applying for a place on a game design degree in Dundee. The school, as hard as they try, aren’t really capable of doing enough to keep her occupied for more than half the school day at most; honestly, I put that down to not dealing with disruptive kids. My year in Japan saw me 6 months ahead of my school mates when I came back, and I only studied in the mornings, so I kind of understand.
So, yeah, any grizzled old coding veteran advice about how to fix this, if the old uninstall/reinstall ploy hasn’t worked, would be most appreciated.
