Been doing a bit of iRacing recently, F4 is a lot of fun, and inevitably started thinking about upgrading my old CSL DD. Then, of course, I saw that Moza have a sale on. 🙈

Tempted to go for the R12 / Bundle for just 579 of your British pounds.

It lasts until well into July so I have some time to re-think. 😆

So, I decided not to go ahead with the wheel upgrade, as from what I hear going from CSL DD to Moza or Simagic is not a massive difference, especially given the price.

That said, I had been eyeing up a new 40″ ultrawide for the rig, and recently the Samsung Odyssey went on sale (thank you Mr Nolan), so I snapped one up.

As always it has taken a bit of tweaking to get the FOV and everything right, but I find that as soon as you get it into the sweet spot everything just clicks into place and instantly feels much more natural.

This new screen is 5120 × 2160 pixels, which is quite a big jump over my old one, and my graphics card was starting to struggle a little, even in iRacing. I had been going back and forth on buying a new card for a long time, but wasn’t sure about taking the plunge.

But then given the news that Nvidia are about to boost prices I decided what the hell, so I got the ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 5070 OC Edition.

It’s nice and compact (smaller than the old one) and was easy to fit, just had a blast there and everything seems great with it. Currently downloading a few classics such as Dirt Rally 2.0 and ACC to try them out with everything maxed out.

So anyway, I went from not upgrading my wheel to spending a grand on a new monitor and graphics card. Oh well, hopefully they will last me many years. 😅

Now I just need to decide whether to sell the 3070 now or wait for the prices to go up.

Nice! I’ve been mooting an upgrade recently but I’m, probably stupidly, going to hold off and see if this bubble bursts.

First time trying DLSS Frame Generation, it’s very impressive. Was playing some Alan Wake II (the last game that really made my old card wheeze), and it’s pretty magic. Getting around 45-50 fps with it off (ray tracing high), but turning it on takes you up to around 200 fps, and it feels incredibly smooth. My untrained eye doesn’t see any defects in the image, although I imagine there must be some artifacts in there. Makes me wonder if the idea of framerate might one day be a thing of the past, as you will be able to just make it whatever you like.
