The gt omega is built!
I’m in bits!
It’s a really good rig. Lots of adjustability, the seat adjusts exactly like a real car; the pedal angle and wheel height are easily changed. All this means that it’s actually very easy to find the perfect position for any race type.
However, a quick Google for instructions will reveal an army of people uttering a collective “WTF?”. Instructions are awful, and putting the actual car seat bit together was pure guesswork because they just don’t tell you.
Not only that but the way it’s designed if you’re not made of rubber and in possession of the ability to levitate heavy objects then you’re going to have a very hard time, for example bolting a seat on to the frame via the underside whilst trying desperately to keep it centred.
And woe betide anyone with giant fruit basket hands, because there are a couple of key bolts that have to be inserted from inside a steel tube and tightened from the outside. Cue lots of swearing as you discover that you have a one in 50 chance of manoeuvring said bolt into the tube, andout through the correct hole, of which there are 3 incorrect ones.
If I ever meet the designer - and it has “designed in Scotland” all over the box - I will shake their hand for such a sturdy, easily adjustable rig, but I will keep hold of their hand and repeatedly punch them in their own face with it, for nearly making me weep and for the sheer amount of pain I’m in now.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry, so I think I’ll splash out and do both.
I will never complain about IKEA furniture again…
