GassyHaggis Ah right. Yeah the way the classes and jobs work is more than a little bit odd. You start a new character with one of 8 classes - archer, gladiator, lancer, marauder, pugilist, arcanist, conjurer and thaumaturge. Each of those turns into one of the fully fledged jobs after completing their level 30 class quest. Conjurer becomes white mage, thaumaturge becomes black mage, gladiator becomes paladin etc. So far, fairly straightforward.
Arcanist is a special case. At 30, it becomes both summoner and scholar, depending on which soul crystal you equip. Gaining levels in one of these also levels the other and you can swap any time. I have no idea why they did this.
Then thereās the rogue class. You canāt start the game as a rogue, you have to level another class to at least 10 then do a quest. At 30, rogues become ninjas.
Then thereās astrologian, dancer, dark knight, gunbreaker, machinist, red mage and samurai. These are fully fledged jobs, but donāt have a starting class like the others above, and you canāt start the game as one. Instead, you can unlock these when youāve leveled either a disciple of war or a disciple of magic job to level 50 by doing a quest. Disciples of war are the jobs that hit or punch things. Disciples of magic are the jobs that cast spells.
Thereās also blue mage. Blue mage is a limited job. This means it doesnāt have a starting class, has a lower level cap than the normal jobs, and canāt do certain types of group content with the other jobs. You unlock blue mage by doing a quest once youāve got a DoW or DoM at level 50 or above. Blue mages donāt learn spells/abilities as they level like the other jobs. They learn them by fighting specific enemies and surviving having the spells/abilities used on them.
Finally, thereās the disciple of the hand and disciple of the land jobs. These are the crafting and gathering jobs, much like you see in WoW.
Thatās all crystal clear now Iām sure.
