Jogort Sorry, I thought I had replied. Yeah I was definitely anxious near the end. Started watching the mirror more than concentrating on where I was going.

Anybody know if there’s a way to keep your bindings from car to car? Because I adjust some of the in car stuff like horizon, height and FFB I have each car set differently but it’s a pain in the hoop having to go back and bind all the buttons to each car when you jump in a new one.

Also, when practicing, is it best to go to the list of races and instead of registering for one just select test drive? That give roughly the same conditions?

I don’t remember if test drive gives you the same conditions. Time trial definitely does but has the downside that you lose SR if you make a mistake.

In terms of bindings there is an option to use different settings for each car that you can turn off. It’s a checkbox in there somewhere.

Apparently I am ready to be promoted as I’ve had a few decent results with SR and completed the required races. Still slow as hell right enough. Think I’ll focus on one main series next season and try and improve. Feel as if I’ve been bouncing around a bit this season.

Also, Knockhill Reverse is lethal in the BMW GT4. 🙈

First race after a bit of a break, the F3 at Donington GP. I only did about four laps of practice before jumping on, so my times are very inconsistent, also I make a few small mistakes. This is the configuration with the hairpin so I have no idea how to take the last two corners. Still, a decent result.

Also I found a new iRacing podcast that I am going to give a try. It looks like the MAP one probably isn’t coming back, which is a shame.

@Jogort Funny, was just thinking about that earlier. Was contemplating either the F3 or the Porsche Cup for next season but it’ll be dependant on tracks I think. Although @Alex does make them look easy 😂

Got placed into the upper tier for a race earlier and was dead last. Bit demoralising when that happens but I kept my nose clean and had some good side by side racing in the first ten minutes. I have been enjoying the touring cars this season but I’m not very fast at all. Spent a bit of time on Lime Rock and Knockhill to get a jump on next week’s TCR and IMSA events as we are out at the ice hockey on Saturday.

Going straight for the race participation credit next season. 😁

I think they’ve decided to focus on other shows these days. It’s a shame as it filled a pretty rare niche, there are loads of sim racing podcasts but they are all focused on the e-sports side of racing, this was the only podcast I know of that took a hobbyist and amateur point of view.

One good thing is that MAP are dropping the Mercedes F1 car next season and going back to the F3. I’m happy as I’ve really been missing my Monday night practice sessions. I took a bold decision early on that, while the F1 car is insane to drive, it would not be fun to race, and I feel I’ve been proved right on that.

Also the next F3 Cup race has been announced as the 25th.

I’ll have to have a go of these F3’s, been playing with the Legacy Pro Mazda today doing a just for fun time trial with PCGB. Quite liking driving the open wheeler, a bit more poke to it than the formula vee. Thought I was doing decent, my best was 52.7ish, most were posting times 52 - 53s then this afternoon someone bangs in a 50.4 😭😭 bloody aliens 👽

That’s two events at knockhill where there’s only been one split. Noticed it last week in the BMWs, but put it down to it being Knockhill Reverse. Today in the IMSA Pilot Challenge it was one split and seems to have been that way since Tuesday.

I’ve loved launching the touring cars over that chicane. Great fun. There’s downtime scheduled on Monday at 1pm so I plan to have a go of the Civic, F3 and Porsche Cup. If I’m not hungover after the Superbowl that is.

The thing to know about the F3 is that it’s like driving on ice until the tyres warm up. The first two laps you have to absolutely tip toe around, however as the tyres warm it gets faster and faster. If you look at the results of an F3 race the fastest laps always come at the end. So basically don’t jump in and get put off immediately because of how hard it seems, take it easy and wait for it to come to you.

Alex Good shout. I’ve been noticing that albeit in a more subtle fashion with the BMW and Hyundai the last fortnight. I think the loadcell is definitely helping me but I am quite slow. Consistency is there though so that’s something.

BritishBean Had it at 40% when I got it and that was properly straining but I found today that I could have had a bit more pressure. Maybe just getting used to it and my head is getting around it now. Might bump it up another 10 over the weekend and see how that feels. Certainly taking a while for it to not feel alien to me. There’s glimpses of eureka moments though.

Considering moving the input box more into my line of vision so I can relate pressure to a visual indicator of what is happening.

Had a couple of decent races recently and my safety rating has skyrocketed. Sitting on a 3.99 with my iRating staying around 1400.

Lime Rock today in the touring cars. A track I’ve never been fond of so never spent any time on it in the past or even today. As expected, I was pretty slow. In the video below I had been hounded by him for a few laps and he was making increasingly aggressive moves so I deliberately let him by at the first turn so I could get on with my race.

Turns out he wasn’t that much faster and I ended up closing him down again near the end of the race.

Main attraction here if you want to get right to the meat and veg.

Had a quick blast of a few cars on Monday when there was downtime. Audi and Honda touring cars felt as expected but not enough to grab one of them. The Porsche Cup felt good but I kept swapping ends under braking and locking up. Think there’s a lot to do with my loadcell experience and the lack of ABS. Could probably figure it out but… The F3. Oh that felt nice right away.

Any mistakes I made I knew were my own and I knew why/how I had made them which was different from the Porsche and the BMW (which is still evading my understanding for some reason). Remarkable how much speed the F3 picks up as the tyres and the track heats up.

Got bumped up to B class because my safety rating was above 4.0 which on promotion dropped it to just above 3.0 again. Joined the IMSA Pilot Challenge in the touring car class again and qualified third in class. Guy in second was sleeping at the rolling start so I got the jump on him and then it was pretty much pulling away slightly every lap. Pace dropped off by about a second to a second and a half with about five laps to go and before that I had been slower too. Tyres probably going off but interestingly the guy in the lead was almost the same lap times from beginning to end about a second faster than my best.

Second place, increase in both ratings in the lower split. At least I felt competitive here even although I am slow. Would have been in the bottom five in the upper split. 😂

Also bumped my brake force up as I’m getting used to the loadcell. Now sitting at a whopping 60% but don’t think I ever used full brakes at all. Which may be where I can gain more time.

GassyHaggis I’m not convinced the higher the pressure the faster you’ll be. I have mine around 50% and with this setting I’m able to manage trail braking. I found that more difficult at 80% and was therefore slower.

BritishBean are you guys talking about the BRF setting? As I thought that was the amount of pressure needed to get 100% braking power, so 50% needs less of a press than say 75%. I dunno how you can do it on 50% as I find I lock up far too quickly on that setting.

Apparently the built-in crew chief will now warn you if you don’t have enough fuel for the race, which is great news.
