I’ve run into my first performance issue with a specific track. In Barcelona, which I ended up buying this week ( and am probably going to race this afternoon ), I ended up getting a very weird fps drop.
I believe it’s the super detailed grandstand, trees and pit lane. What’s weird is on my out lap ( on the Ultrawide ) I get between 100 and 200 fps then the second I cross the start finish line it drops down to 70 and then fluctuates been 50 something and 70 for the rest of that series of laps. If I pit and make some gfx changes it’ll go back up and then bam, cross the start finish line and it nosedives.
I’ve tried with a full ai race (I realise ai will add to the load) and it’s even worse.
I tried it with VR and obviously it was initially pretty horrific. It actually dropped to 30 fps which I could handle but it wasn’t comfortable or that drivable.
So I’ve turned the grandstand off, lowered a shit ton of detail where I can, and I’ve turned ASW (the pc equivalent of that quest 2 performance boost I posted about) and I’m now getting a reasonably steady 80 fps ( with vr I believe this is per eye at least with ASW turned on) it feels very comfortable now and I’m driving fine with it.
But wow, some of these newer tracks are really poorly optimised and optimisable. Apparently it’s next to impossible to turn off the detail in the pit lane regardless of your settings, after reading through the forums. Hungaroring seems to be an issue as well.
I had thought the game was easier on hardware than the likes of ACC, and it is to an extent, but I’m quite shocked by the performance wall I’ve hit here.
I’m going to have to use a separate gfx configuration for some of these tracks.
