This is the Season 2 schedule. It looks like the only rookie road series next season is definitely MX5 ( which is actually a good thing imo). I managed to get up to D relatively quickly purely by staying out of trouble, so you’re not stuck there for long. Then your choices open up in D. Even staying out of trouble, you’ll pick up places. Hell I landed a podium in Oulton by not crashing =D

I’d definitely say do a few different tracks in the MX5s though even if you do move up a class.

Yeah definitely stick to the MX5s when you start, they are fun and teach you a lot. As Brave days, do the MX5 season that starts next week, stay out of trouble and build your rating up so you can start other series.

Brave Thanks for the tips. I recorded it with Shadowplay which has a function that records in game sound and microphone onto different tracks. Then I imported it into Resolve and mixed them together. I thought I’d set the car noise relatively quiet (I didn’t want it too quiet) but maybe it should be a bit quieter. I could probably add some compression to the voice track, I don’t know if Resolve does that.

Yeah in the edit page you should be able to normalise the audio track. You might also be able to add compression as an audio effect.

Or in the Fairlight* page you can do all sorts of things but that’s a rabbit hole you may not want to go down yet, or ever.

I think Black Magic have done an Adobe and just bought up developers and their products to fold into resolve. Hence the weird names for the motion graphics (fusion) and audio design (Fairlight) pages. It can make it seem pretty impenetrable at times.

Still listening to the Missed Apex iRacing podcast. It covers some good ground but nothing has been revelatory for me so far. What it has been good for is reminding me of the basics of racing, and also to encourage me to experiment more and not get stuck in a rut with my driving.

I think as well as someone who has been sim racing for about seventeen years you tend to pick up a lot of habits that it’s good to revaluate sometimes. The way you turn into a corner, or the way you get on the brakes. It’s making me think about what I’m doing a lot more than I had been which is good.

It’s definitely making me a better overall driver.

I’m really enjoying learning the Skippy. I’ve spent a couple of hours over the last few days learning the car at Okayama which is going to be where the first race is.

I started with a 1:53 a couple of days ago I think, and within 30 minutes got down to a high 1:46. It’s now taking longer to find where I’m missing time ( to be expected ) but I’m quite pleased with what I got out of today’s session. 1:46.089 is about 1.5 seconds off the alien times. from what I can see online.

I decided to have another go at the Skippy, just to check, and I found it a bit better. I managed to beat your time with 1:45.573.

I put a wheel on the grass at one point but I managed to save it!

Starting to have some real good fun races in this wee mazda, had a nightmare on my first race today spinning it up on the green light on a bank corner start and 360 ahoy for me and someone straight into me 😆
2nd race was more fun though with a wee holy shit moment haha

New season live. Noticed my license has increased to a C, which is surprising, but I guess must have been crunched during the downtime. This could blow my season plans out the water, but think I might stick with what I’ve chosen for now seeing as I’ve already bought the Audi and the first track.

That last Laguna Seca weekend did for my promotion prospects.

I’m having second thoughts about going with 2 series this season though. I don’t really have the time to get comfortable with both.

I’ll do Skippy this week and Ferrari next and see how I get on. I really want to move up to endurance races so I’m thinking I’ll go with the Ferrari in the end. Much as I’ve enjoyed the Skip Barber.

2nd place!

So pleased with tonight’s racing. I messed up the first race. Qualified 8th, then lost the back end in the last corner of lap 3, collecting 2 others (I apologised. Totally my fault). But I took a tow got repaired and got on with racing at the back. Picked up a couple of places. Still, somehow got a single safety point.

Then I went in again. No idea how I got pole. Best lap I’d ever done. Totally bricked it on the grid, as I really didn’t want to be at the front 😄

I wanted to take my time and work my way through the back and learn how to race these cars slowly. But nooo. Feckin pole 🙂

Anyway. I had a bloody brilliant race. We swapped places continuously for the first 8 laps. Three wide at times. Then it spread out and I managed to stay within a second of the leader and widen the gap to 3rd.

Was sweating buckets by the end 😄 that wheel has strong ffb. Really glad I jumped in.

It’s great isn’t it, I love the tension it brings on the grid. I got a 3rd place start the other day and it’s nerve wracking although I seem to be not bad on the green light with the Mazda but iracing froze about 3 laps in while in 2nd place and looking good at keeping it 😭😭

Jogort I have a love/hate relationship with it.

I genuinely hate how nervous I get on the grid, I keep thinking I’m too old for that shit; and I truly hate how I feel if I mess up and take someone out of the race. Thankfully that last bit doesn’t happen too often. Just often enough to make me even nervier on the grid 😄

But then I’ll have a race like tonight, which is genuinely one of the best, most exciting races I’ve had in my life. And I know I’m going to dive back in and try and do that again; despite the fact that my heart was in my mouth the whole time I was fending other drivers off.

It feels like a real sport to me. It really does.
