Caved for the PC version. Got the G29 setup, loaded up the game, picked a random Argentinian stage, the traditional Subaru Impreza, and… got absolutely destroyed! It was a brutal re-introduction. I reloaded the stage and had another go and fared a bit better, but was surprised at how brutal I found it, given how I’ve put 150 hours into the original game.
Only change I needed to make to the wheel was to set the degrees to 540, to make the steering angle work better. Everything else from the linearity and sensitivity, to the FFB seemed well tuned out of the bag. The button presses are a bit confusing, as it lists them as 1, 2, 3 etc instead of their real symbol. Also for some reason R2 is the pause/start button, instead of, eh, the actual start button. Running on high settings it runs at around 60fps but I had to drop the weather effects and shadows to medium.
I’m glad I got it for PC right now, as apparently there are some problems with the PS4 Pro version according to Digital Foundry. Despite running at native 4K on Xbox One X, on Pro it’s only running at 1080p, which seems very strange. I reckon there must be a bug or issue there that Codies will need to fix.
Anyway, started my rally career with the slow Lancia, finding it a lot easier than the Impreza. Enjoying it so far!
