I went back to it tonight after a few days rest, and suddenly found myself in the groove. I’d upgraded to Clubman and bought an Opel Kadett, mainly for its light weight and lack of BHP, which I reasoned would make it a little kinder on my right foot. Man, I adore the handling of these RWD cars. The feeling in balancing the throttle/brake round a corner is just sublime. Seriously, the handling in DR2.0 is something else. No, it’s not perfect, but it’s not far off.
I keep being reminded by XCOM2 while playing, as it feels like that sequel did. It’s not that it’s easier than the first, just it feels more manageable. But then, like that game, there are also new aspects of difficulty, such as the changing road surface, more random events (like fans on the road, or cars broken down in front of you), as well as a more complete damage system. It does feel like a marked improvement over the previous game, despite a few gremlins.
I did a New Zealand stage in the wet, and remembered to save the video. It shows that I’m starting to get the hang of this. I’m still a little too eager, and have a tendency to miss important instructions such as ‘caution’ and ‘slow’. Anyway, this is a further ShadowPlay experiment except this time it’s encoded with Handbrake and uploaded manually.
