It’s slowly coming back to me. Doing a lot better now I’ve given up on learning a new weapon and just stuck with lance and hunting horn - there’s enough new stuff to get to grips with between the changes to their movesets and the wirebug stuff as it is.

It’s remarkable how streamlined it all is now coming from MHW. There’s hardly any loading at all and far less faffing about with item boxes and menus. Lovely 🙂

Lily’s on holiday for the next couple of weeks and I’m treating it as if I’m on holiday too, so I’m available for online whenever 🙂

Except Friday, which is basically All You Can Eat Outriders Day. 😉

We def need to get a session going soon. Evenings are probably the best chance for me. I was going to take Friday off so I could play Outriders, then remembered school Easter holidays start on Thursday 😱

Friday evening for a bit of Outriders/MHR?

Just popping in to say I’m loving it - definitely the most fun I’ve ever had with Monster Hunter. 🙂

I’m about most evenings but can’t do friday’s (that’s Gloomhaven night) and I’m on leave all next week from work, so will be about even more.

Not a fan of the rampage mode so far. I hope there’s not too much of that.

Gordon That seems to be the common consensus. I’ve read that it’s a very minor part of the game though. I finished up playing yesterday with that mission queued up and ready to go.

Yeah. Really not liking rampage. The tutorial itself is very frustrating imo.

    4 days later

Had a great time with the hunting horn last night. I spent a bit of time in the training area learning the new stuff then did a few hunts. The sound it makes when you land a hit square on the monster’s head is just delightful 🙂 It’s surprisingly mobile too, you can cancel out of a lot of the attacks by rolling.

Couple of things I’m confused about though - how do you ‘sharpen’ a horn? And why is it called a horn when it’s clearly a guitar on a stick that you smash monsters heads with?

I might have a look at that. They’ve always seemed super complex to be though.

I’ve started bringing out my old favourite, the insect glaive. Used it bring down that nasty Khezu yesterday. I’m finding it slightly different from how it used to be, in terms of aiming and some of the other mechanics. Might track down a video to see what exactly is different.

Brave It’s much simpler to use than it was in MHW. Basically you have three “songs”. To play a song, you have to first queue up the notes - one song is played with X, X, one is A, A, and one is X+A, X+A. So you queue up the notes naturally by whacking the monsters. Then you press perform (RT) - that consumes the notes you’ve queued up, plays the songs, triggers an attack and gives everyone a buff. You can queue the notes in any order and play any or all of the songs at a time. That’s pretty much it. There’s a new thing where if you have all three songs queued up and you press RT+X you get an extra buff/attack.

Aside from that, it’s a big blunt weapon so you generally want to go for the head. It has a nice long reach and feels really mobile (well, to me, coming from lance). It’s loads of fun, give it a try. I would imagine there’ll be a decent amount of crossover for you from having already played hammer.

This is a pretty good guide for the MHR hunting horn :

I just remembered I was going to post these up for you @Gordon . These are the larger grippy joycons I was talking about a few days ago.

They’re Hori, not PowerA. They’re pretty good. Can’t use them wirelessly, I don’t think it has vibration and I prefer the texture of the original joycons but other than that they’re actually a very good replacement.

Less likely to give you hand cramp on long monster hunter sessions at least imo. 😉

That’s weird. It’s working on my phone.

Yes that’s the one. You get a ton of variants. YMMV though depending on the shape and size of your hands obviously. I’ve found it fine and it gets good reviews though. 😉

Brave Nice one, ta! I’m picking one up this afternoon. I just can’t do Monster Hunter with the joycons, they’re killing my hands and I keep hitting the roll button when I press X+A.

Hopefully they’ll do the trick for you. 🙂

I don’t mind the joycons too much but I have to admit with I play on the big screen, the pro controller is so much more comfortable. The thing I miss most when I use the Hori is the rumble, actually; but that’s by no means a deal breaker.

Brave Yep, these will do nicely. Can actually use the controls without hand/wrist pain or accidental button presses now. They actually feel surprisingly solid. And as an added bonus, my Switch is now the size of a small family car! Thanks for the suggestion 🙂

That’s great! Glad I could help. Now… I threw away my instructions, do you know how to assign the back paddles? 😆
