had a quick go. It’s fairly normal survival mechanics generally, but I’m not sure they’ve got the balance right from the off. The starvation mechanic seems on the harsh side given the amount of food that is apparently available. “You’’ll starve if you don’t find enough food and on this whole island Archipelago there is one mushroom’ doesn’t feel all that reasonable.
And rezzing me back in (after dying of exhaustion while harvesting seaweed) Literally right next to the biggest, angriest animal I’d encountered so far (and has successfully managed to evade previously) doesn’t really enamour me to it.
But it seems fairly generous in other ways - you can craft quite a variety of things from the initial resources available so you have lots of choice about how you want to progress - establish a base or explore for a better site? Do you want to craft weapons to get the resources from animals, or tools to get resources from the ground & the fauna?
So initial impressions are it’s a bit rough round the edges, but the core mechanics - finding stuff, crafting, travelling etc. seem to all work quite well. And it is quite pretty - reminds me a lot of Rime, I think it was.
Will have a proper look again soon, but I need to get further into The Last Campfire and Ghost of Tsushima first, not really enough time for three games at once…
