I should probably preface the incoming mini-rant by saying Iām well aware that everyone has done the right thing in the larger scheme of things and Iām glad thatās the case. None the less, Iām somewhat shaken and in need of a little venting.
I was sat having a nice lunch break today, enjoying the Immortal Fenyx thingymabob demo on Stadia when an email from the school popped up on my phone. It was obviously bad news as it was addressed to the parents of my eldestās class. Paraphrasing but basically the email said, āCould you come and pick your kid up? One of the kids in the class has tested positive for COVID.ā I get to school and Mum-gossiping was in full flow, āitās such and suchā and āhe was at school todayā etc. Turns out the family of the kid had been doing the ONS program weekly and his has come back positive this time and that triggered them to notify the school. I should stress itās just the kid in question with the positive result. Not the rest of the family who all took a test at the same time, whilst theyāve been following lockdown like all of us. So naturally Iām now questioning the test result as you hear about wrong tests all the time. I donāt think thatās unreasonable but at the same time you have to assume that it is accurate because the last thing you want to do is making things worse for anyone else. And the school have to treat it just as seriously, as they have and now our kid is out of school for the next 2 weeks.
Worst of all though is the poor thing was in floods of tears when I picked her up, in full on panic mode. Sheās somewhat calmer now but you can tell itās still in the back of her mind. And is quite possibly all completely unnecessary, it might be a flawed result, she might not get it anyway etc. Or it might not be. Chances are weāll never know.
Thinking about it I guess not knowing would be the most preferable result, so letās keep our fingers crossed eh? Like I say, nobody has done any thing wrong, just following the rules and weāll follow the rules to, just like we have been. But just a slightly painful reminder that COVID is still shit, even if things might appear to be getting better.
Just wanted to have a little moan. As you were.
