In The World Before, I used to work in a big open plan office with 100+ people in it. But thatās not the story.
I work at a University. That university provides āstudy spacesā for itās students - basically a desk with computer of some sort, a couple of power sockets for their own laptop or whatever, plus space to work.
In The World Before, the spacing between them was effectively zero. Now, of course, theyāre required to ensure proper distancing between people as they work. So effectively each study space grew but about 2M across. They did not in any way have enough room to have all the study spaces they needed when the students came back at that size.
So what did they do? Grabbed every bit of open plan office space they could find and turned it into study space. IncludingALL the available hot desk spaces and most of the rest, Including my ādeskā, which was actually a space on a long sort of canteen table like set up.
The result? I literally no longer have anywhere to go back to work to. I have no office or desk as such. So Iām probably not going to go back much, am I?
