Yeah, it's terrific.
After a week of not being able to play anything I've picked up my Claire B play-through. Similar to Nier Automata when you finish it with one character you've only seen half the story. I loved my Leon play-through, but got to admit it took me a while to into playing as Claire . Mainly because I'd played the police department to death and wasn't super keen on being thrown back into it. However, you're able to use your map memory to get through a lot of that stuff pretty quickly, and the differences are enough to keep things interesting. It reveals itself to be basically a slight shorter slightly harder version of the police department, compounded by Claire's slightly more fiddly load-out.
I said before on G+ about how weird it is that despite transferring a 2D world into a 3D one, they've managed to keep the atmosphere and feeling of the place exactly right, while changing pretty much everything. Everything is how I remember it being, even if on closer examination it's not really. And even some slightly gaping holes (such as the lack of Kendo's gun shop in the opening), are resolved by the story long term.
I think this is why I'm so down on the Link's Awakening remake, as to me it just doesn't look how I remember. To my memory Link awoke on a desolate wind-swept beach, and explored a strange and foreign land. In the remake he wakes up on a Fisher-Price beach and explores a world that looks like it was made of LEGO. It's subtle thing but RE2 remake gets it perfectly right, and Link's Awakening just doesn't do it for me. Anyway, I digress.
Still really enjoying my second play-through and lots of zombie stomping fun to be had. Also Mr X can go fuck himself, as per.
