Gammerz backup to a non volcanic location?
Internet Rationing
backup to the ISS. It’s the only way be sure.
Jonbwfc until about asteroid hits it or coronavirus
I work in a fairly big institution. When we were putting a major system in, we made sure all the data on it was replicated instantly between two sites on the opposite sides of Manchester.
In one planning meeting, a project manager (sigh) asked me “Well, what happens if both sites get taken out at the same time?”
My response was “If that happens me, you and everybody else who cares about the data will almost certainly be dead, so I for one really won’t care any more”
I work for a major financial institution and in New York they moved their trading floor out of Wall Street and setup outside the city to avoid CORVID-19, only to find they had put their new base right in the middle of a cluster of outbreaks. I think they’re finding you can’t contingency plan yourself round a pandemic.

We’re not all that bad

British Steel had that sort of thing at one of their plants years ago, two centres for replication/redundancy etc. However someone did point out that the two buildings chosen were too close together and in fact one of the towers falling over could take out both at once
Flooding in Manchester could take out 2 locations simultaneously?
Microsoft has underwater data centers.

I’m reminded a bit of the plant genome library or whatever it’s called. There’s a big vault where they have sufficient samples of as many plant species as possible, so if we have some cataclysm they can restore the plants in a properly species diverse way, and from that you can restore agriculture and from that you can restore civilisation, or at least that’s the theory. I think it’s in Greenland maybe? Somewhere ruddy cold generally anyway.
Ah, The Global Seed Vault in Svalbard
Jonbwfc I hope there’s a backup in Antarctica in case it gets bombed!
BritishBean Placing vital resources in an inaccessible place like Antarctica could be just as effective as destroying it.
