So that was very very fun last night chaps. I’m quite surprised to be honest. It has potential stress levels which would normally count me out these days, but the pace is such that that is mitigated quite a bit. Combat was really interesting, with the historical setting making reloading a key consideration and the high penalty for being noisy making melee a highly viable tactic.
I actually think the bloodline system and the roster, where you can lose a character you’ve built up, is where some serious depth lies, however complicated it is right now. It actually reminds of one of the older mech games where you lost your mech or your save. Was it Steel Battalion? It makes character progression more valuable and death in game feel much more impactful.
My only gripe is the interface, which has made zero concessions to console users. There’s no excuse really for tiny text and using the stick as a surrogate mouse. Everything there could easily be navigable with a controller without much effort imo.
On the plus side, it’s very pretty imo, once in a match.
I can’t see myself playing solo, but I’m very much up for duos and trios.
I couldn’t help but think last night: this is more fun than Gears… 😉
