I felt that way when I started iRacing.
My advice would be to really practice tracks ahead of time. GTS has a weekly schedule doesnāt it? If so, you should be able to prep reasonably well.
My method with iRacing is to test drive (no repercussions if I get things wrong, until I can go twenty minutes error free). Then I do a couple of TTs (where you get penalised for loss of control etc.).
Then and only then do I race. Iāll generally have around 50 laps under my belt (depending on the track) at that point.
Now thatās a sizable time commitment I know but I treat it like a real race weekend. I suspect the people who are still playing GTS online after all this time are the same, so youāre up against people who know these tracks and cars really well by now.
And then when the time comes to race those tracks again, you wonāt need anywhere near that amount of prep because you already know it š
