So I was looking forward to a decent tennis game. Sadly the one in this month’s PS+ is not a decent tennis game.
The tutorial does not cover the mechanics of playing the game AT ALL. Literally not for one second. What is does cover in detail is the use of ‘tactics cards’, which are one use buffs you can have a ‘hand’ of to play in a game, either in SP or MP. Do you think you know where this is going? Yes, you’re correct. Cards come in packs, and packs can be bought with in game winnings or with real money.
There are only two licenced players, Nadal and Federer. Despite obvious shelling out for this, they seem to have decided to go for having Zombie Nadal and Federer instead, because the likenesses are.. quite unflattering. Every other avatar you can pick (including some you have to get.. AS CARDS!) are ‘Bioware character generator random choice’ with PES style similar names.
There are also no licensed stadiums, or tournaments, or clothes, or rackets. Or… well, balls, frankly.
I started an exhibition game and was initially confused, until I realised the default configuration in single player is to have both players controlled by the computer. Yes, you have to actually explicitly tell it you want to play the game. After I figured that out, things didn’t improve much. The movement and animation is sluggish and simplistic, and I still don’t know what most of the controls do because there is literally nothing that explains that at any point.
It is… staggeringly mediocre in every way and seems much more interested in selling you it’s pointless FUT knockoff than actually entertaining you in any form.
Deleted. I’d advise you to avoid wasting the download.
