I think there’s a weird double edged sword there tbh. With retailers who are unlikely to sell on any games to people after they buy their PS5s, they’re unlikely to really care who the 400 odd quid came from.
So a general store like Argos probably isn’t bothered, but GAME or even Amazon are more likely to want those follow up purchases and may want to do something about it
In that regard, the most frustrated folk aside from gamers, will be the platform holders who are selling at a loss in the hopes that we buy their games.
There’s some evidence that last week’s ps5 shipment did go largely to proper punters because suddenly the ps5 games sales figures went up astronomically for the first time since the actual real launch window.
I saw a video about it today and it looks like Demon’s Souls sales sky rocketed at the same point that those consoles went on sale. That’s not to say that the scalpers are lying. More that maybe 2000 consoles is small beer now, and their days are numbered as supply increases.
Worth remembering also, the people who sell the scalping bots as a service make their money off the subscriptions they provide.
Every time they boast about a huge scalp they get another influx of subscribers. So it’s in their interest to make these claims and we’re not going to be any the wiser about whether it’s true or not.
Although to be fair in this case, Argos have fessed up. Kind of. Hopefully they’ll put it right for next time.
