What isn’t so cool, and I’m actually pretty pissed off about it, is the “HD” camera. Which is frankly shocking, especially from a company that’s absolutely at the top of the imaging industry right now. It’s grainy and the colour reproduction is just as bad as the PS4 camera if not a little worse; to the point where I switched to monochrome during yesterday’s Demon’s Souls stream because it was unbearable.
Not only that but it seems to not be properly in focus which means I may end up going even further retro and using the scanlines filter to just make it an intentional novelty because it looks better than the bare camera.
And THEN we get to what’s been my biggest issue with Sony this last few months. Their absolute shit show when it comes to giving us the info we need to make the right purchasing decisions.
It turns out that the PS4 camera is perfectly usable as a streaming camera on PS5 if you use the VR adaptor (arrived today). So I didn’t fucking need to buy the thing anyway.
It was bought on a whim, but with the reasoning that it seemed like the PS4 camera adaptor was for VR on ps5 only (edit: and I assumed it would be a much better camera overall. It isn’t). I don’t recall seeing anything anywhere that said otherwise. In fact, why aren’t they just selling the adaptor? That’s a rhetorical question btw.
So yeah, I’m way more impressed and happy with my PS5 so far than I dreamed possible. I absolutely love the machine.
But yet again there’s something off about the messaging here and it’s beginning to feel less consumer friendly the more I think about it.
